****WELCOME FRIENDS****
I am artist of texture and color. I enjoy working with textiles, mixed media and the graphic arts. I am an avid cottage gardener with a love for pass along plants and big fluffy pink peonies and pink roses. Many of my tangible creations reflect my love of the garden and all its wonderful colors. I have been selling my creations online since 2002 beginning as a hobby. After 10 years I quit the day job to pursue my art as a full time passion.

Show Stoppers in the garden!

Oh I have so much fun in the summer drooling over my flowers! But flowers make us feel good, don't they? With lots of work the rewards are many. A few of those rewards I got are pictured below on a recent walk through my gardens.

August Passion Project

If you have been following me on facebook or recently here on the blog, you know that I chose a "passion project" every month. Simply put, it is a project or challenge that I give myself the month to complete. Sometimes I will do 2-3 projects. This summer I have been doing some simple painting projects that I can do outdoors.

For August, it was this barn wood bench on my front porch. I bought it about 15 years ago from (off all places) at our local Ace Hardware store! It was built from old barn wood by someone who knew the owner of the hardware store. It was the end of the season and they had marked it down to a really low price so we loaded it up on the spot!

I haven't ever really used it for a potting bench since I do that on the back patio, but I like to collect old watering cans and I keep a few of my gardening tools for the front yard as well fertilizer for my potted plants there. As you can see, most of the red stain has faded off and the wood is pretty dried out and rough.

I picked up some Barn Red stain and pack of sponges as well as a good supply of plastic gloves. I literally used the entire can of stain--that dry wood was thirsty!

This also gave me a chance to purge some of junk and clean up those watering cans!

All done! Should be good for another 15 years??

Summer on the front porch

I am a little late with the annual front porch pics, but 2021 has been a HOT summer and shook up the growing season for my potted plants. We had 3 unusual days of SW desert heat here in Oregon-108f, 112f, 117f at the end of June.

My hydrangea were burned so badly that they will not recover until next season. Camelia shrubs were badly burnt too. As for the potted flowers and plants, they went into dormancy for about 10 days, but with some water, fertilizer, and love they have rebounded quite nicely.

July's passion project

If you have been following me on facebook or recently here on the blog, you know that I chose a "passion project" every month. Simply put, it is a project or challenge that I give myself the month to complete. Sometimes I will do 2-3 projects. This summer I have been doing some simple painting projects that I can do outdoors.

For July, it was this beat up bakers rack I picked up at a garage sale last summer. I have been putting off doing anything with it because I had no idea what color to paint it. Always looking for inspiration, I stumbled on a post in a group on facebook that used the color Ink Blue on a similar rack and fell in love with the color.

Easy to find Painters Touch spray paint. I was perplexed on what to do with the wood sections, I didn't like the blond wood color, but wanted to keep the wood grain look. I just happened to have some Barn Red stain (for a future project) that made a nice contrast to the ink blue.

The little wood knobs were stapled on, so I pulled them out, drilled holes and added some stainless steel knobs taken from a broken dresser that we took to the dump. Strange part is how the light hits these one looks higher than the other and it makes me a bit crazy lol.

Both of these paint and stains are available at almost any home/hardware store.
