Patriotic Porch

Having a little fun this week decorating my porch space for the holiday weekend. This the first time I decorated for the 4th of July, usually I just use one them and leave it up all summer, but I decided changing things up a little would be fun.

 I grabbed this old king size quilt from my linen closet, perfect fit for the teak bench I must say! I had this wonderful vintage tablecloth pillow sham that had all the right colors.

I gathered up a few coordinating treasures. I forgot I had these colorful Burpee seed mugs tucked in the back of a cupboard. I need to use these this summer, they are perfect for the season. Picked a handful of bachelor buttons (or cornflowers as the farmers here call them)

One of my favorite display pieces is this old wood flat. Fun to just tuck in what I can find. Goes well with the wispy pink baby's breath, alyssum and brachycome daisies.

I went to the back shed and found this old window that I have used in a number of places mainly the back patio or on my back fence, and thought-why not? So here it is above the bench. I had some vintage looking flag fabric in my stash and simply gathered it up to dress the window a bit.

just throwing in a close up on my up-cycled chair I did a couple years ago. The brachycome flowers are planted in a hard hat that I punched holes into for drainage.

all set to kick off my shoes and watch the fireworks from the porch!

Doors....

I have always been fascinated with the uniqueness of doors. Doors are an entry way to a new or different view. Most don't notice the door, they only anticipate what is on the other side.

I keep my camera handy in our travels and snap a pic whenever I see one that is interesting...

  This was taken at the Oregon coast at an abandoned storefront. The weathered chippy and shabby coastal colors fascinated me. My hubby thought I was a little crazy

 I saw this door in Northern California. It had to be the narrowest I have ever seen. Just a little over 2 feet wide.

The tallest door that was an average door width.The handle looks low, but it isn't. This was taken at the restored Tallman Inn at Upper Lake, Ca.

A few years ago we took a southern Caribbean cruise that departed San Juan Puerto Rico which in Old San Juan is know for it's unique doors...

I loved how the doors were different on each floor of this building in San Juan

First garden stroll of the season

Our spring in Oregon has been fabulous! On.Easter Sunday we had a rare 80f day---.then while we were in Hawaii the weather was pretty nasty here. But the sunny weather must have followed us home as we have experienced over 2 weeks of glorious summer--not spring--temps. This gave everything a big jump start, I actually planted my tomatoes 3 weeks earlier than I normally do. But unfortunately, this week we snapped back into normal Pacific Northwest spring weather with temps in the mid 60's and r*a*i*n...........

Today was overcast and a perfect time to get the first photos of the season of my cottage garden and what is in bloom at the moment. I had to start watermarking my photos recently, especially the ones of my garden and the products I sell since I am finding them all over Facebook and Pinterest. I might as well get credit for them, huh?

My annual flowers are not yet planted. They will dance around the stepping stones

Purple

I dug way back in my pic files and found a few creations in did in the purple family. It is not a color I work with often~not sure why, because I do love the color. I think it must be that it is hard to find really pretty fabrics in shades of purple.

I really don't have a cupboard, I have a sideboard hutch that I display my collection of vintage German Porcelain along with a few other pieces of depression glass that I inherited from my grandmother.

I rally couldn't get good pics with low lighting, so the pics below are some I took a while back.

as  you can probably tell, I am in love with any vintage pieces with pink roses!
